After working on these projects for way too long due to moving 5 seperate times from the initial fruition, I have finally completed the next 3 SD40-2's for my fleet. As with the first 4 units (seen here: www.qstation.org/EricGoodman) 2 of the units started out as Kato SD40-2's, this time they were early version NS units picked up for a song that found their way into the paint stripper and into the X-acto path. The third unit started out as a undecorated dummy Athearn Post-80 SD40-2 with the wide exhaust silencer and the Q-fans up top (too bad I couldn't get that Athearn shell to fit the Kato SD40-2 frame). Standard ATSF details were added including the antenna base, AC unit, EOT antenna, relocation of the horn to the long hood and the headlights down in the nose. THe units were completely re-wired and have wired pickup from the trucks instead of the bronze strips that Kato poorly engineered. Add a little Scalecoat Paint, some Microscale decals, and voila!
